Gender pay gap reversed for driving instructors

Driving Instructors are bucking the trend when it comes to the gender pay gap.

The gender pay gap between men and women in the UK is often a hot topic in the world of press and politics, with men widely reported as earning more than men both generally and when it comes to both sexes doing exactly the same jobs. However, as recently reported by the Sun newspaper, statistics suggest that on average women Driving Instructors earn more than their male counterparts.
National statistics indicate that in the UK men generally earn 9.4% than women for doing the same job.

However, recent reports suggest that on average women earn £35 per week more than male Driving Instructors, based on a 29 hour working week. This is due to the increasing demand for female Driving Instructors by learner drivers, allowing women to charge 10% more per hour (taking them to an average of £25.84 per hour) bringing their weekly earnings to approximately £754.00 per week. Conversely, the average hourly rate charged by male Driving Instructors is £24.47 per hour.

Regardless of this discrepancy statistics suggest that working as a Driving Instructor is one of the most lucrative jobs out there, with top earners netting up to £50,000 per annum. Indeed the figures suggest that 15% of Driving Instructors take home a cool £1,000 per week! This represents a significantly better living than HGV and Delivery Drivers who take home an average of £27,000 and £18,500 respectively per annum.
